Hawaii

My husband has the camera held hostage in his office, lets hope he remembers to bring it home tonight. So instead here are some pictures from my january trip to maui, hawaii. It was an amazing vacation and I truly believe every person deserves to go and experience paradise. There is nothing else like it.

Etiolation!

Etiolation: The state of plants that have been grown in the dark: they are not green, having little or no chlorophyll, and they have very long internodes and rudimentary leaf growth. These features associated with etiolation ensure, under natural conditions, that the shoot is carried towards the light as rapidly as possible.

It took several of my coworkers to figure out how to spell this word, and we all have horticulture degrees! And I forgot there was a t in the word. When searching for this I came across an old article from the new york times in 1901 and they were experimenting with different plants and how they grow almost deformed under little or no light. It was pretty interesting!
Check out these plants I found that etiolated

Lilac Buds are popping

Check out these buds on Donald Wyman Lilac! They are huge, I think we will get to see some lilac blooms early this year. Yippee

Brrrr!!! I know its normal temps this week but I think I got too spoiled last week with it being 70-75 degrees.

Day #2

It was a chilly and rainy day so I took a picture of the Gerbera Daisy's my husband gave me two weeks ago. If only all the flowers would last this long! Not to shabby for five dollars!

My Amazing Peony

It is the 6th of april and my peony is 12" high and has already set buds. This is unprecidented! My new goal is to take a picture each day of a plant and post it on here. We will see how I do!
